  • Anxiety

Research shows that psychotherapy is often the most effective option for treating anxiety disorders because therapy seeks to resolve the root of an individual’s anxiety. Social anxiety might cause you to worry that you are being judged harshly by others, which can cause you to avoid everyday interactions or feel embarrassed and self-conscious. Generalized anxiety may lead you to worry about everything all the time, which can cause exhaustion.  No matter what you are experiencing, we can help to uncover the underlying causes of your anxiety, learn how to truly relax, anchor your perspective, and develop better coping mechanisms and problem-solving skills so you can face the world without fear.

    Autism

Autism Spectrum Disorder, commonly abbreviated as ASD or simply referred to as Autism, is a neurobehavioral disorder with a spectrum of symptoms and impairments that range in severity. Autism is characterized by difficulty in communicating and interacting with others, and obsessive or repetitive behavior. As information about autism is made more available many are noticing symptoms in themselves or their children. If you find yourself wondering if you are among this population, we can help you get support. We provide the gold-standard diagnostic test, ADOS-2, to get answers and clarity for you or a loved one. A diagnosis of ASD opens doors to helpful services, such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and provides understanding that can be used to greatly improve an autistic individual’s ability to interact with the world.

In addition to testing and diagnosis, we provide psychotherapy to help individuals with their specific concerns that may include the treatment of anxiety, anger management, or building social skills. We offer support to caregivers through Parent Coaching, giving caregivers clear information on a new diagnosis and by teaching behavior management strategies to best support their loved one.

Even still, trying to deal with discord when it comes up can feel frustrating, impossible, and anything but healthy or normal. Since disagreements are an unavoidable part of life, learning to handle them in a positive, constructive, and problem-focused way is crucial to happiness and well-being. Parent Coaching

Nothing really prepares you to become a parent. With all the information out there, it is difficult to know what strategy to use for your family. We will work with you to create a unique Behavior Modification Plan that meets your family’s needs.

Parent Coaching is more goal-oriented than psychotherapy, which is often focused on understanding as a catalyst for change. Where psychotherapy emphasizes exploring past events to recognize their impact on moods and behaviors. Parent coaching prioritizes choosing one goal at a time (get my child to do their homework without a daily tantrum) and offers evidence-based techniques to help get the outcomes your family desires. We guide you through the development and implementation of a Behavior Modification Plan to give you the tools to reduce tantrums and improve relationships.

    Relationships

The desire to improve one’s relationships is one of the most common reasons for starting therapy. Humans are social beings and rely on relationships, but many of us are never taught the tools to establish and maintain healthy relationships. We can provide you with the knowledge to successfully navigate the various relationships in your life. We can give you tools that can lead to better interactions with family, friends, partners, and colleagues. You may be involved in a relationship that has harmful qualities, like abuse or codependency, which can make you feel powerless or hopeless. We will equip you with the knowledge to identify these patterns and skills to establish the relationships you want and deserve.

During this time, hormone levels are skyrocketing, bodily appearances are changing, the brain is still developing. This turbulent time often leaves teens feeling out of control. Additionally, today’s teens are faced with intense pressure to perform well academically and to fit into social circles. This pressure takes a toll on a teen’s mental health and overall well-being. We can work with you and your teen to grow the knowledge and skills to navigate this life phase. We help develop problem-solving skills that they will need to be successful as they enter their young adulthood. We will help your teen better understand their emotions and offer them appropriate ways for self-expression.

Additionally, we can provide support for you, parenting a teen is not easy! Parents and caregivers often struggle to find the right balance between independence and structure for their child. There is no question that teens, and even adult children, still need support, and we can help you ensure that you are giving the right amount so that your teen has the room to grow yet the security they need to thrive.

    Trauma

Most people will experience trauma in their lifetime, even though it is commonly thought of as something that only happens to military veterans. Trauma occurs on a spectrum and labels such as “big T traumas” and “little t traumas” are often used to differentiate. Because what is traumatic varies so greatly from person to person we can use emotions like confusion, fear, and numbness to help identify trauma. Traumatic experiences can occur when a person experiences exposure to a threat or violence by experiencing it, witnessing it, or even learning about it. We recognize that what may be traumatic for one person may not be for another therefore we will allow you to set the pace for difficult topics. We will provide you with a safe and judgement-free environment to discuss your experiences and heal.
